Pet Guards Clinic

Mission Statement

Pet Guards Clinic's PRIMARY MISSION is to provide subsidized low cost vaccinations, spaying, and neutering for pets of Northeast Ohio. By providing these services, Pet Guards will avert needless deaths due to preventable illness and prevent undesired births of unwanted puppies and kittens

Pet Guards Clinic's SECONDARY MISSION is to provide subsidized veterinary care to pets ADOPTED at our shelter facility. In this manner Pet Guards continues to care for the pets they have placed in the community.

Clinic History

In 1992, Pet Guards instituted a low cost, donation subsidized spay, neuter and vaccination program. The public response was so overwhelming that Pet Guards established a clinic to meet the demand. The goal of the clinic is to end the vicious cycle of too many puppies and kittens and not enough homes.Pet Guards Clinic has spayed or neutered over 10,000 animals to date.

Understanding Vaccinations

Less is Best. With the good of the animal in mind, Pet Guards promotes less vaccinations with better quality vaccines. Puppies and kittens are usually vaccinated every 30 days from approximately 6-8 weeks until 4 to 6 months of age. Then the adult shot is given at least once a year.

  • Adult dogs age 1 through 6 years of age receive annual vaccinations for the adult dog shot and if necessary Bordatella Rabies is given first at one year intervals then every three years.
  • Adult cats age 1 through 6 years of age are given an adult cat shot annually and an FeLV prevention vaccine annually, if the cat goes outside. Rabies is given first at a one year interval and then every three years.
  • Dogs and cats between 6 and 10 years of age are vaccinated every three years for most vaccines.
  • Dogs and Cats over 10 years of age receive only rabies shots every three years according to State law
