About Pet Guards Shelter

In the late 1980s, a group of caring people dreamed of a better future for the pets of Northeastern Ohio. These people wanted to end the homelessness, suffering and abuse of pet animals. Above all, they refused to believe that innocent pets must be killed because there were not enough homes. The dream grew into a reality when Pet Guards Shelter opened. Since we opened our doors, over 10,000 loving, caring pets have been place in lifelong homes. The shelter is dedicated to finding the right homes for these once unwanted pets. There is a home for all of them.

In 1999, 1,266 dogs, 515 cats, 302 puppies, and 241 kittens were euthanized in Summit County alone. Pet Guards does not euthanize; instead the shelter provides an alternative to such senseless killing of helpless animals.

Prior to adoption, all of our animals are either spayed or neutered and are current on vaccinations. Cats and kittens are screened for feline leukemia and dogs for heartworm.

Pet Guards Shelter is a private, not-for-profit, no-kill, and no time limit humane organization. We are dedicated to providing temporary shelter for unfortunate loving animals that are waiting for permanent quality homes. We are not affiliated with any Humane Society, nor supported by any government or tax dollars.
